Ofosu Ampofo Slaps Okay FM, Daily Guide & 5 Others with 10M Lawsuit

Kwame Nkruma Tikese, popular morning show host of Okay FM’s ‘Ade a Kye abia’ in the capital of Ghana, Western Publications, publishers of Daily Guide and their Editor Fortune Alimi, Tawiah Boateng, NDC’s Eastern Regional Chairman and three others were dragged to court by Ofosu Ampofo and slapped with 10 million cedis libel suit.

Elikplim L. Agbemava, an Accra based lawyer, confirmed to thenationalpenonline.com Tuesday that he had filed a suit, on behalf of the Vice National Chairman, at the Accra High Court, General Jurisdiction for the enforcement of my client’s fundamental rights to freedom from inhuman and degrading treatment, human dignity, fair hearing, and freedom from discrimination.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo is seeking an award of 10 Million cedis as aggravated damages for libel in the sum of Ten Million Cedis for general and exemplary damages’ against the defendants;.General Damages for libel; a perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants and each of them, their servants, or agents or assigns from further publishing or causing to be published the said or similar words defamatory of the Plaintiff. And Costs, including reasonable attorney fees

“If a wrong is done to the revered Man, he is bound to receive justice for that wrong,” said Elikplim Esq.

In the suit, the plaintiff avers that on the Front Page and page 3 of the 30th October, 2017 issue of the Daily Guide newspaper, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Defendants re-published the words of the 1st Defendant and other false statements which are defamatory of the Plaintiff under the blazing headline “NDC GURUS IN DIRTY FIGHT”: “It has emerged that Samuel Ofosu Ampofo wanted to be vice president when President John Evans Atta Mills suddenly passed away in July 2012. Mr. Ampofo’s ambition to run for the presidency is still alive, playing the Eastern Region card, DAILY GUIDE can confirm. However, when he was asked to prove his academic credentials, he failed woefully, according to Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the current Eastern Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)”.

Furthermore, the Plaintiff avers that in their natural and ordinary meaning the words, statements or story published by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Defendants, apart from being laced with falsehoods, meant and were ordinarily understood to mean that the Plaintiff was not as educated as he claims to be.

Plaintiff argues that he has over the years, by providence, honesty, integrity and diligence, built an excellent and respected reputation for himself having worked as a trained teacher, teaching mechanical engineering at the St Paul’s Technical Institute in Kukuratumi. That he was the District Chief Executive of Fanteakwa District for 3 years, Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa Constituency for 8 years, Deputy Regional Minister for Eastern Region for 4 years, acting District Chief Executive for Manya Krobo District, Minister for the Eastern Region and Minister for Local Government and Rural Development between 2009 and 2013, Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Executive Chairman of Universal Multi Media Limited, Complex Farms, Co-founder of Ampofo and Agyapong Leadership and Mentoring.

The suit asked the court to compel defendants from engaging in similar act(s) against the plaintiff
