Leave me out of state lands grabbing brigade-Fmr President Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has dissociated himself from high profile personalities who grabbed state lands at giveaway prices under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

There are reports that more than 415 prominent figures were cheaply given prime lands in Accra without recourse to laid down procedures.

Names of former President JohnAgyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings were among alleged beneficiaries of the so-called state lands.

But spokesperson of the Former President, Frank Agyekum described the claims as untrue and a deliberate attempt by some faceless individuals to ruin his hard won reputation .

According to him, the information making the rounds, the former president bought a plot of 0.58 acre of land is inaccurate.

Explaining the circumstances under which all this came about, he revealed that President Kufuor prior to 2008  was supposed to have received his retirement benefit including a house and an office.

“The reality is that, the former president should have been given a house and an office as his retirement benefit, but the government was only able to present him the office. It was just in recent times the government gave him his office. Government said they will not be able to build him a house so that is why he was given a land. He is supposed to live there”. The spokesperson said, “The former president didn’t buy the land, it was given to him by the state, he added.
