Eastern Region: NDC denies claims 13 party executives have resigned

The Akwatia Constituency secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied media reports that 13 of its executives have left the party.

A statement from Constituency Secretary, Joseph Asiedu, says “we as a party are not aware neither have we received any resignation from any Constituency Executive member.”

Some media outlets had reported that some 13 constituency executives had taken steps to leave the party, citing unfair treatment by former MP for the area, Baba Jamal, and the party’s National Vice Chairperson, Anita De Soso, as the reason for their discontent.

The reports quote Henry Boakye Yiadom, constituency vice chairman, as saying that notwithstanding their sacrifices and efforts for the party over the years, they were being accused falsely and threatened with suspension.

The statement from the Constituency Secretary, Joseph Asiedu, meanwhile, said “let it be known that the Party is in the process of reorganization and any party member who is aggrieved is allowed by the constitution of the NDC and the guidelines for the Branch elections to Petition to the Party at the constituency level or the Regional Secretariat.”

RE: 13 EXECUTIVES RESIGN FROM AKWATIA NDC.

Our attention has been drawn to a publication on the above subject matter by Ghanaweb and other Media houses which are accusing our National Vice Chairperson Hon. Anita Desooso and the former Member of Parliament Hon. Baba Jamal of unfair treatment. The publication states that some 13 Executives of the Akwatia Constituency have resigned without mentioning any names except references to an interview with our Vice Chairman Henry Boakye.

The publication states that the resignation by these Constituency Executives is as a result of a petition written by the Former MP and his followers to the regional party.

We wish to state categorically that the former MP has not written any Petition to any party executives at any level and has not appended his signature on any petition by his followers to any party executives.

Again we as a party are not aware neither have we received any resignation from any Constituency Executive member.

Let it be known that the Party is in the process of reorganization and any party member who is aggrieved is allowed by the constitution of the NDC and the guidelines for the Branch elections to Petition to the Party at the constituency level or the Regional Secretariat. The party has received about three different petitions which has to do with the elections and the National Party sent the Vice Chairperson to resolve them. None of the petitions was against the former MP or was written by him.

We, therefore, find this publication very unfortunate and a complete fabrication to tarnish the image of the NDC in Akwatia Constituency.

We are happy to announce that the conduct of the Branch elections has been very successful and we express our gratitude and appreciation to all members of the Party for their cooperation during the exercise. We also thank the Election Directorate for their hard work and also the Regional Executives and the National Executives especially Madam Anita Desooso, for their effective supervision throughout the exercise.

We hereby call on Ghanaweb and any media house for that matter to be abreast with the facts and correct that false publication on their websites.

Signed.

Joseph Asiedu.

Constituency Secretary
